About PCC Farmland Trust

PCC Farmland Trust protects and stewards threatened farmland across Washington. We keep land in production by making it accessible to future generations of farmers.

Local farms are essential to our daily lives. Investing in Washington farmland means healthy food for our children, thriving rural economies, and fertile, productive soil. In other words, farms impact all of us, and make our communities better places to live, work, and play.

But over the last four decades, some of Washington’s best farmland has been irreversibly lost to development. And in the next ten years, 70% of our farmers will retire without a successor in place. As the cost of land continues to rise—and our state’s best farmland goes up for sale—we are working to sustain a future for farming in Washington for generations to come.

Position Overview

We are seeking a self-motivated, organized, and enthusiastic intern to support our community engagement program in Snohomish County this summer. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our work, gaining training and experience in volunteer coordination, event planning, innovative communications tactics, and land conservation and stewardship. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about farmland preservation and sustainable agriculture and is looking for hands-on experience in this field.

  • Assist with event planning and lead the implementation and staffing of our On the Farm series, No Farms, No Beer series, and other events
  • Assist with coordination and lead the implementation and staffing of volunteer gleaning events
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for volunteer gleaning events
  • Represent the Trust by running our vendor booths at festivals, farmers markets, and other community events
  • Produce creative and engaging content for the Trust’s social media channels
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with community outreach and engagement
  • Experience with event planning and day-of coordination
  • Familiar with local players and food and farming community in Snohomish County
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable agriculture or local food systems
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work both individually and with a team
  • Vehicle and valid, insurable driver’s license/record
Commitment and Compensation

This is a part-time (18 hours/week), temporary position that will last for 17 weeks between July and October of 2020. The schedule is flexible, but the successful candidate must be available to staff events some weekday evenings and weekend days. The compensation is $15/hour.
